It’s Magic

Celeste has worked for years in the family’s equipment rental business and recently sold the company.

Six months ago, her mother gave her a lucky pendant and she is certain she is responsible for the win.

While I sat at the machine waiting for someone to arrive, I began to get nervous and said to my companion, “You better go find someone in case we have a power failure and I lose the entire jackpot.”

He left to find an attendant and when they returned they confirmed that I did win the progressive jackpot of $1,195,974.

It was now 2:52 a.m. and we were far from being tired after all the excitement. Celeste added, “It was hilarious–the hotel personnel immediately moved us to the penthouse suite. We waited around until later, and then called my mother and brother to tell them our room had been changed and to come up to our suite to visit us.

My brother immediately said, “How much did you win, $10,000?” I said “No a lot more than that. Just put your robes on and come up to the suite.

When they arrived, we held up the check and I took a picture of my mother’s face when she saw the amount!”

How does she feel about the win? “I felt very humbled and thankful for my blessings. It’s been a wonderful experience.” Her future plans are simple for now, “we’ve put it in CDs until we can decide.”

Michael Figueroa of Citrus Heights, CA, said they were celebrating his friend’s 30th birthday at Horizon Casino, Lake Tahoe when they decided to play some slot machines. Once you know which poker you are good at, you should be able to answer another important question: Why are you winning most of the time at one variation of poker and losing often at the other? Is it because you have mastered the technical aspects of the game? Or is it because you are simply topnotch at the people aspects of poker? The technical skills of poker involve being adept at poker math, such as pot odds. The people skills involve bluffing and being able to modify the style of play.

In Longhand Limit Hold’em, the most important advantage of a poker player is his technical skills. The winning player must be patient and understands hand value. Many experienced online poker players will notice that play at the poker cash games often tightens up for the first month after the holiday season. At the low-limit ring games online, our observations show that the percentage of players seeing the flop at Hold’em is often reduced from the average year-round levels. These games not only become tighter, but consequently slightly tougher to beat as well.

Recreational players only tend to play a lot online when their disposable income isn’t in use. Holiday gifts take precedence at this time of year and you’ll find a large quantity of players won’t start gambling again until they have paid off those holiday bills. Regardless of the level of play and expertise, it always seems that the cold months lend to more conservative play and life decisions. Some say this is in part contributed by a natural desire to conserve resources during winter seasons.

Since January seems to bring these tougher poker games online, our suggestion is to play more tournaments than you might otherwise during another month. Players usually have a better shot at winning in tournament play over the experts, and the tendency to play tighter than normal can be exploited much more in a tournament than a cash game.
